Important Rules Before You Drive
Georgia has specific traffic rules that catch visitors off guard:
- Speed limits — enforced by plain-clothes police and hidden cameras. Signs change frequently.
- Bus lanes — never cross the yellow bus lane line. Strictly enforced in Tbilisi.
- Zero alcohol tolerance — any amount of alcohol while driving is illegal.
- Paid parking — zones A, B, and C require advance payment. Enter your plate number, duration, and zone before parking. Outside marked zones, parking is free.
- Restricted areas — vehicles cannot be taken to Tusheti, Vashlovani Nature Reserve, or Juta.
- Accidents — stop immediately, do not move the car, and call us first. Moving the vehicle without notifying us removes your insurance coverage.
